On visiting one of our favourite Finnieston neighbours, we recently had the exciting opportunity to try Six by Nico’s new Highlands inspired ’Forest’ menu! Each course stayed very true to theme, both in taste and aesthetic, making it great fun for us to pair each dish with a complementary IOLLA frame.
In case you’ve missed out on the recent buzz, Six by Nico have taken restauranting to a whole new level, changing their six course tasting menu every six weeks, “each one themed upon a different place or memory.”
Having an open kitchen in amongst the seating meant we could watch the preparation of each plate and learn about the concepts behind every course from the chef himself. Their attempt to channel a sense of mystery and escapism from reality clearly came through in design as well as taste, which was especially evident in the theatrical smoky unveiling of the Pheasant Terrine, a definite highlight of our culinary experience!
Perhaps surprisingly, it was the Foraged Wild Mushroom with Parisienne Gnocchi and Parmesan and Truffle Royale that really impressed our tastebuds, alongside the final Trio of Apple that featured a Brioche Parfait that I may or may not have been dreaming about for the past two weeks…
As you may have seen on our Instagram, we also paired each course with one of our own frames. The food’s natural, earthy palette matched our olive acetates perfectly, and the berries that accompanied most of the dishes provided a pop of colour that proved harmonious with our Plum Fade Muirs and Patina Fade Smiths.
All in all we 10/10 would recommend Six by Nico to all of our friends but if you fancy tasting their ‘Forest’ menu you’ll have to be quick, a new menu will be starting on November 20th. We, for one, can’t wait to see how they will continue to combine innovation with fine dining in future themes!
Thanks for an amazing afternoon, guys!
